Walcher develops its own turbine controllers

Walcher has decades of experience in the field of control technology for hydroelectric power plants . This helps us develop our own digital turbine controllers. As part of the software, the turbine controllers are integrated into the PLC program for controlling the hydropower plant. The controllers can be used regardless of the turbine type, as they are universally adaptable.

Modular design of the turbine controller

The turbine regulators are available in various design variants, depending on the desired scope of performance. They basically consist of a water level controller based on a PID controller. The controller controls the complete startup and shutdown process for each turbine type.

Various modules are available for our turbine controllers:

  • Speed ​​controller for the synchronization of synchronous machines or for stand-alone operation

  • Voltage and cosphi controller as a manipulated variable for external excitation devices

  • OWQ regulation

  • Power controller, eg for surge operation

  • Optimization control (joint control) to drive several machines with optimal efficiency
