Progress has a long tradition
INDEX Werke was founded in 1914 by Hermann Hahn, who began producing turret lathes that year. He was a Swabian thoroughbred entrepreneur who laid the foundation for an impressive development with creative ideas and the pursuit of quality. More than 20,000 automatic lathes have already been sold within four decades, on which INDEX's excellent global reputation is based. In 1975 INDEX started to produce multi-spindle automatic lathes. A few years later, CNC technology was introduced. INDEX quickly assumed a pioneering role here. After the death of Eugen Hahn, the son of the company founder, 85% of the company shares were placed in a foundation. In 1992, INDEX introduced a new generation of turn-mill centers based on a modular system. In 1997, TRAUB Drehmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG from neighboring Reichenbach/Fils was taken over and integrated into the INDEX works. To this day, the company is pursuing a two-brand strategy.

INDEX has been offering multifunctional production centers since 2002, in which various process technologies can be integrated in one machine. Complete machining not only increases quality and precision, but above all reduces production costs due to shorter throughput times. The main customers of INDEX lathes include the automotive and automotive supplier industry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronics industry as well as manufacturers in fluid technology and fittings construction. I NDEX deliberately relies on Germany as a production location and also produces important core components on its own lathes and turn-mill centers. Motivated and well-trained employees manufacture quality and build each machine with care and attention to detail. The employees are promoted by the company and intensively trained through training and further education measures. A lot of effort is also invested in the training of young people. A training rate of around 6 percent is remarkable for a medium-sized company. In order to remain competitive, INDEX relies on flexible manufacturing strategies.
