E DPS Ergonomic dynamic picking system

Ergonomic picking using Pick-to-Tote

Ergonomic picking using pick-to-tote in warehouse logistics

The basic structure of an E-DPS (Ergonomic Dynamic Picking System) basic module consists of a multi-aisle, automatic small parts warehouse (AKL) with a modified rack construction that takes on storage, replenishment and consolidation functions. A basic module is defined with 20,000 tote locations, two storage and retrieval machines, three PMLs, a vertical conveyor with multi-variable inward and outward transfer and two picking stations. E-DPS works according to the goods-to-man / pick-to-dead principle.

The special feature: While the replenishment of stored items from the two outer warehouse aisles is made available with the storage and retrieval machines in the middle aisle, up to three highly dynamic Picking Mini Loads (PMLs) arranged one above the other supply the picking stations with extraordinarily high performance. An extremely large number of storage and retrieval movements are made possible by specific vehicle and load handling technology. The picking stations are supplied with storage containers by the PMLs, an additional integrated vertical conveyor and minimal conveyor technology.

The software controls and optimizes all processes so that, on the one hand, the storage and transport processes are decoupled from picking with the installed mechanics and, on the other hand, the order and sequence-based provision of the goods is ensured. The picker benefits from optimal ergonomics in the picking area thanks to his ideal sitting or standing position and the storage and order containers that are presented at an angle. Even the acknowledgment technology can be designed individually. For example, light grids can be integrated, which completely eliminates the need to count the pick units that have been removed.

The highest level of safety in order picking is also guaranteed. If necessary, the E-DPS grows with you in a modular way - for example, if the order volume increases, product ranges are expanded or a higher system performance is required. The system is able to buffer ready-picked containers and make them available for loading according to shipping specifications.

Characteristics

  • Picking principle: goods-to-man
  • Combination of an automatic small parts warehouse (AKL) with stationary ergonomic picking stations
  • Automatic formation of the picking fronts in the AKL using high-speed stacker cranes - so-called Picking Mini Loads (PML)
  • Automatic generation and sequential provision (vertical cycle conveyor) of the picking goods at the picking stations
  • Complete elimination of picking routes - seated picking possible
  • Performance: up to 1,000 order lines per hour per E-DPS module
  • Space savings due to compact modular design
