Drum Chipper

Drum Chipper

SA 10 a SA 25

The machine is intended for cutting of timber waste from sawmill and woodworking operations (edgings/slabs, off-cuts, wood waste, wood residues and the like) to high-quality chips.

Produced chips can further be processed in the paper industry, in the manufacture of chipboard or MDF boards, it can be used as fuel, and the like. The quality of these chips depends on many factors, particularly the state of tools, quality of machine adjustment, and the quality and type of processed material.

The machine's robust design makes it possible to use the machine in continuous operation where it can perform without permanent attendance of operating personnel only with occasional supervision.

The robust and solid machine frame is welded from high-quality steel plates and profiles.

The impeller – chipping drum - is embedded inside the frame in high-quality, highly resistant roller bearings. Impeller actuation is provided through V-belts by the main electromotor.

A couple of upper feed rollers are located in a swing box that is lifted by the entering raw material. Its reverse motion is damped by means of a hydraulic device.

A couple of lower feed rollers are located firmly in the machine frame.

The feed rollers are embedded in high-quality roller bearings; actuation of both the upper and lower rollers is provided by geared electromotors.

The upper half of the chipping drum is secured by a steel cover that is fitted with a end sensor against start up of the machine when open.

A solid counter-knife is fitted between the lower feed roller and the chipping drum. Raw material is separated against this solid counter-knife by rotating knives and pulled down under the chipping drum. Chips of the desired size fall through the separating sieve fixed under the cutter drum in the machine frame. Longer chips that passed through the chipping mechanism but that do not fall through the separating sieve are further cut to pieces by the cutter drum.

Finished chips that fell through the separating sieve are removed from the area under the chipper by a system of belt or scraper conveyors.

The feed side of the chipper is fitted with a vibrating conveyor that transports raw material to the feed rollers. The vibrating feed conveyor can be fitted with a metal detector that, in case it detects metal, emits a signal to stop the whole feeding line.

In case of chipping drum electromotor overload, material supply is automatically halted by shutting down electromotors of the feed rollers. The feed rollers are automatically started once the supplied material is processed. In this way the chipper is protected against overloading.

Part of delivery is an electric switchboard that can, by request, be fitted with elements for switching and control of electromotors of the feed and carry-off conveyor lines.
