Cartesian Robots

Matching Cartesian Robots

Cartesian robots can be adapted very well to the respective application conditions due to their modularity. They also take up less space than 6 axis robots, for example, because they only have the functionalities that are actually needed.

IAI offers rectangular robot as 2-6 axis combinations with 230 V servo motor in hundreds of configurations as standard or precision types. An equally comprehensive portfolio of cost-effective Cartesian RoboCylinders is available. There are 396 possible combinations for them, including cable chain selection even 7056.

Standard and precision types

The most frequently requested configurations are the 2 or 3-axis systems in a standard or precision type.  All systems are compact, highly-stable units with a low weight and high rigidity.

Each one is delivered with the associated connecting parts and cabling and can be installed immediately in a production line. A wide range of configurations ensures that all the special requirements of every user can be met.

Cartesian system with nut rotation servo motor

Combined axes with a nut rotation servo motor offer outstanding transport.

The servo motor built into the slider moves the slider along the fixed ball screw. This allows heavy loads to be transported at a very high speed, even with a long stroke.

Inexpensive cartesian RoboCylinder

The latest cartesian RoboCylinder is based on the new generation of linear systems from the RCP6 series. Just like them, these cartesian robots also feature high-resolution battery-less absolute encoders and thus have the same advantages: the elimination of reference drives and a home sensor, the elimination of battery maintenance, easy restarting after an emergency stop, etc.

In comparison with the predecessor series, the new generation of Cartesian robots has a 2.4-fold faster maximum speed in combination with a PCON controller. As a result, the cycle times could be significantly reduced and productivity noticeably increased.

The repeatability of all Cartesian robot systems is +/- 0.01 mm. All vertically used axes can also be equipped with a brake so that the slider is prevented from sinking down in the event of an interruption of the power supply.

Robotic wrist unit for cartesian robots

With the robot wrist unit cartesian systems for the first time have the same flexibility and degrees of freedom as articulated arm robots. Only much cheaper and with much less space requirement. Moreover, IAI's unique design makes the components light and compact. Can also be used for an orthogonal axis system with interpolation function.

The innovative wrist unit has two joints: The tilting joint for swivelling has a working circle of ±100⁰ while the rotary joint can be rotated around ±360⁰. The two pulse motors move these cylinders at speeds of between 750 ⁰/s and 1,200 ⁰/s.
