The design and construction of a fluid filtration system may vary from application to application depending on a number of factors (e.g., type of process fluid, kinds of particulates that need to be removed, expected system operating pressures and temperatures, required filtration efficiency, etc.). For example, systems can come in side-steam or full-flow configurations. However, the key components are typically the same from one unit to the next; they may include filters, pumps, valves, tanks, and controls.

THE ROLE OF FLUID FILTRATION SYSTEMS IN FLUID HEATING SYSTEMS

As indicated above, fluid filtration systems can be designed and constructed to suit different applications. One common application is thermal fluid heaters, which are indirect heating systems that utilize a liquid medium to transfer heat energy to where it needs to go within a closed-loop system. Common heat transfer mediums include glycol, thermal oil, and water, each of which accumulates particulates as it moves across a system. Fluid filtration systems separate these particulates from the fluid to prevent them from affecting the performance of the thermal fluid heating system. 

There are many types of thermal fluid heating systems, all of which come with certain advantages and disadvantages. The types that use fluid filtration systems include standard oil/gas-fired thermal fluid heaters, biomass-fired thermal fluid heaters, and electric process circulation heaters.
