Since 1970, L3 MAPPS has been providing Digital Control Computers (DCC’s) for CANDU nuclear power plants throughout the world (Canada, Argentina, Romania, China and South Korea). Each implementation contains two fully redundant, on-line DCC’s (identified as DCCX and DCCY) which control all the major systems in the CANDU nuclear power plant. L3 MAPPS provides a DCC system for each new CANDU plant constructed. In addition, L3 MAPPS has worked with the CANDU Owners Group (COG) to design a replacement strategy for aging DCC’s. The strategy consists of replacing all the original DCC components (many obsolete) with newly manufactured parts that run the original DCC software and perform the same control and monitoring functions as the original DCC’s. COG members have been employing L3 MAPPS to perform these DCC replacements consistently since 2005. The DCC’s use computer with purpose-built process I/O interfaces and peripherals housed in cabinets, in addition to free-standing peripherals such as printers, keyboards, and monitors. To scan relay contacts, limit switches, or other similar types of contacts, contact scanners are used.
