Worm gear

Worm gear is most often used in less demanding applications, with relatively low loads (torques below 1000 Nm).

Versatile use of worm gears results from their universal fasteners to the construction and many options of output shafts and the possibility of using various connections of electric motors.

The worm gear has the same that there is a significant slip between the worm and the subsequent turns of the screw and that is why an important aspect is the right choice of materials that must be resistant not only to high pressures but also to abrasion and must be characterized by the lowest coefficients of friction. The speed of the mutual slip of the teeth is the higher the higher the sheer angle has the screws. Therefore, snails are made of steel for thermal improvement or carburizing and hardening, and less frequently of heat-improving steel. Very rarely and at low slip speeds, snails from cast iron can be found.
