The bucket chain dredger principle was the first to be patented as early as 1827 and was initially used successfully in canal construction (Suez Canal 1859-1869). With the use of bucket chain excavators in opencast mining at the beginning of the last century, a development began that led to ever larger and more powerful machines.
The following excavators are now in use in opencast mining:
Large bucket chain excavator
The large bucket chain excavators on rail chassis, which work in front-cutting, are the most powerful mining equipment in overburden, especially in connection with an overburden conveyor bridge. Since they can work in deep and high cuts, the excavation height can total up to 65 m from one location.
