Finding the right jib crane for your application First things first – if you don’t know your jib radius from your mounting options, the first question to ask is ‘what is a jib crane’? A jib crane consists of horizontal beam called a ‘jib’ or ‘jib arm’ (or even sometimes a ‘boom’) to which a hoist is attached. The jib arm is typically either supported by a post or attached to a building wall or column. Normally the jib crane’s arm slews to a given angle and hoist is able to travel up and down the arm – however the degree and method of movement will vary depending on the design of each jib crane. This means we optimise the dimensions of the base plate and the size and number of the bolts used to suit the thickness of the concrete on your workshop, the load being lifted and the jib crane itself.
