ABB Ability ™ Smart Sensor is a monitoring solution that allows you to perform predictive maintenance on all low voltage motors.By monitoring and analyzing engine operating data, the sensor allows operators to optimize engine performance. The solution helps reduce downtime by 70%, increase motor life by 30% and reduce energy consumption by 10%.MONITORING OF OPERATION ON ALL LOW VOLTAGE MOTORSContinuous monitoring of the condition of low voltage motors has always been too expensive. Thus, in most cases, the motors were simply used until they failed. ABB has developed a new solution with a view to cost efficiency. With a payback time of less than one year, ABB's solution allows remote monitoring to be extended to virtually all low voltage motors.INTELLIGENT EYE ON BOARDAt the heart of the solution is a compact sensor that can be easily applied to motors without any wiring. Some ABB low voltage motor families can be factory equipped with these smart sensors. Retrofit kits are also available to equip already installed motors with sensors. Mounting and configuring the sensor takes a few minutes. The sensors are compatible with all low voltage motors, new or old, both from ABB and other manufacturers.The sensor detects various signals from the engine, accurately measuring key parameters at regular intervals. The data is then transmitted via the low-power Bluetooth® connection integrated to a smartphone or (in future releases) to an ABN gateway, finally reaching a secure server in the cloud via the Internet. The communication uses standard encryption protocols and all data is stored in the cloud in encrypted format.Advanced algorithms based on ABB's extensive know-how analyze data and produce useful and usable information. The server then sends the information directly to the operator's smartphone and to the dedicated ABB Ability ™ Smart Sensor portal. The data is also tracked over time for historical analysis.
