Spiral Wound Gaskets

Spiral Wound Gaskets

Spiral Wound Gaskets

Spiral wound gaskets consist of a V-shaped metal strip spirally wound in combination with a soft, filler material. The metal strip provides outstanding recovery, while the flexible filler guarantees excellent sealing.

Due to this combination of materials the spiral wound gasket is suitable for sealing under severely fluctuating temperature and pressure conditions. Depending on the application, the spiral wound gasket can be specified with outer and/or inner rings.

The Manufacture of Spiral Wound Gaskets

We precision manufacture a comprehensive range of spiral wound gaskets by winding alternating strips of metal and filler material. By combining different winding materials and metals, gaskets can be tailored to suit a wide variety of operating conditions, but are most typically used for processes involving steam, chemicals, oils and hydrocarbons.

The outer rings rest on the flange bolts, thus locating the gasket centrally on the raised face of the flange. It also supports the sealing element and resists 'blow out'. The ring provides a 'stop' preventing over-compression of the sealing element.

Key Features

  • Temperature: Up to +1000°C.
  • Fluid Pressures: Up to 250 bar
  • Provides outstanding performance over a wide range of media and temperatures including steam, chemicals, oils and hydrocarbons.
  • Because of the robust design of the spiral wound gasket, it is simple to install without damage, although care should be taken in transporting and installing large diameter gaskets without inner or outer guide rings.
  • The gasket is non-adhesive and is easily removed.
  • All graphite gaskets produced undergo rigorous testing and are supplied to recognised national and international standards.
