Hot & Cold stamping

Hot stamping, also known as hot forming or press quenching, is the process of taking a hot sheet of metal and forming it while in a die, which also quickly cools or quenches it. The process converts low-tensile strength steel into very high-strength steel. The process causes wear, buildup, and softening of the die material. DYNA-BLUE PLUS and DYNA-MAX (DYNA-BLUE + PVD) have provided a solution to  these problems by increasing resistance to wear, buildup, softening as well as providing better material flow and release properties.Benefits of DYNA-BLUE PLUS

  • 2-10 times increase in tool life due to 75 HRC compound zone as compared to Nitriding with no compound zone @ 60-65 HRC.
  • Compound zone resists heat checking, thermal fatigue, thermal softening (temper resistant) and wear.
  • Increased resistance to cracking due to increased residual compressive stress, which is the opposite of a tensile stress that initiates cracking.
  • Reduced coefficient of friction= better formability
  • DYNA-BLUE® penetrates holes, bores, while ion nitride does not as it is “line of sight”.
  • Maintains excellent micro-finish, no post polishing needed as other nitriding processes do.
  • Oxide layer retains lubricants, enhances corrosion resistance and promotes material free flow.
  • Overnight turnaround
  • Die cleanup is no problem and enhanced weldability

Benefits of DYNA-MAX (DYNA-BLUE® + PVD)

  • Hard PVD coating on top with DYNA-BLUE® Diffused into the steel providing additional support and wear resistance.
  • Dimensionally stable-low temperature process.
  • Resists wear, heat checking, erosion, soldering up to 5 times longer.
  • Excellent release properties and formability due to PVD coating on the surface.
  • Increased resistance to Thermal Fatigue due to high levels of compressive stress imparted into surface.
  • Low dimensional variation.
  • Resists softening at elevated temperatures.
