SIMO is dedicated to three-dimensional laser cutting of thermoformed parts for the automotive industry.

Cutting with traditional (mechanical) systems involves problems for the final quality, caused by micro-fractures due to the stress of the material that determine high waste. Furthermore, the execution times are generally long in order to obtain a satisfactory quality.

By eliminating the contact between the tool and the piece, laser cutting technology solves these problems and at the same time allows an increase in both quality and working speed and therefore final productivity.

The translation of the axes takes place by means of linear motors, with a rigid "gantry" with two separate motors for moving the portal.

Linear motors, as known, provide excellent performance for maximum accelerations and speeds: mechanical motion transmission devices are eliminated and with this the main source of vibrations for the structures.

Two torque motors and an electric commutator were used for the rotary axes of the cutting head.

With this configuration, the two axes have no mechanical limitations and can perform several complete turns.

This results in a wide and facilitated possibility of programming the work paths, in order to be able to perform complex and demanding paths with reduced times, without the need to reposition the axes with unnecessary movements for the purposes of machining.

All this then translates into a better realization of the product, in a significant reduction in dead times and overall in a net increase in productivity.

The accuracy of the measurement systems is fundamental not only for the precision of the positioning, but above all for the regularity of the motion in conditions of very high dynamics.

We therefore chose high-quality measuring systems for the linear axes, consisting of high-resolution absolute optical scales (EnDAT protocol), while for the two rotary axes, two high-resolution optical ring encoders were used.
