With oversize head blanks in stock, we can manufacture a revolving or stationary head to your specifications up to .035″ over the original dimension.

If the bed casting aligning your Davenport’s revolving head becomes worn and you choose to re-bore, as opposed to banding and boring, Davenport can offer you an Oversize Revolving Head.

After you re-bore your machine, it should clean up in the .010″ to .030″ range. You can then call and order the appropriate head dimension.

Davenport Machine has upgraded the inspection department for all OEM parts including the revolving heads. A new Brown & Sharpe CNC Coordinate Measuring Machine has been upgraded to insure repeatability of all OEM parts. A Certificate of Compliance with head serial number is available with all revolving heads purchased – OEM Standard or OEM Oversized.

    • Both bearing diameter bands are covered by a proprietary metallic hard-coating material
    • Hard-coated heads retain oil better and reduce friction during index by over 65%
    • Greatly reduced galling and pick up on the bearing bands due to dissimilar metal interfaces – indexing the revolving head no longer runs a cast iron head on a cast iron bed
    • Extended life and accuracy of the Davenport Model B or Davenport HP
    • No visible or measurable wear on the hard-coated heads after 1 million parts produced
    • No visible wear on the scraped bores

Testing Runs:

    • No visible or measurable wear on hard-coated heads after producing over 1 million parts in testing run on customer’s machines
    • Test machine has NO SIGNS OF WEAR on the scraped bores, with the original oil-distribution scores of the scraping bar still evident on 100% of the bore.
    • No burnishing of high spots was evident at any point in the bores
    • The head and machine bed looked like the day they were assembled. With good spindles, the machine can make parts as accurately as the first day of operation!
