Laminated Sheets
Laminated material is produced by surface-bonding individual layers of 0.002 or 0.003 inch precision metal foil into sheets whose total thickness can range from 0.006 to whatever thickness is required. These materials are fabricated in 48 inch long sheets, in widths from 8 to 24 inches wide, depending on the material involved. The bonding material (0.0003-inch maximum) between the layers of metal is so secure that the shim looks and behaves like solid metal. In use, the laminations are simply peeled off with a knife blade, one at a time, right on the assembly line. With a minimum of experience, an assembler becomes adept at removing individual laminations as required.
