SLE3 AND SLU4 SERIES LABEL SENSORS
Scan Labels with Compact LED or Ultrasonic Slot Sensors
To detect labels as machines apply them to items passing rapidly through on an automated production line, you need a rugged, high-speed label sensor. Banner Engineering now offers two new sensors for scanning. The SLE3 and SLU4 series each feature a narrow slot between two arms with the emitter and receiver mechanically aligned for ease of installation. The fixed slot width provides precise opposed-mode sensing to recognize individual labels or their paper backing as they are fed through automated labeling equipment at high speeds.

Optimized for Label Types
The SLE3 Series Slot Label Sensor is equipped with a high-intensity infrared LED, which can penetrate thicker label backing paper and is less sensitive to web flutter. By contrast, the SLU4 Series Slot Label Sensor uses ultrasonic technology rather than light. This enables it to detect transparent labels as well as opaque ones and identify differences in label thickness.
Fast Response Time
Maximize your production time with our SLE3 sensor, which features 35-microsecond response time for use with high-speed rewinders, or install the SLU4 with a 200-microsecond response time for use with other automated labeling applications.
Clear Visual Indicators
The SLE3 features an oversize three-color LED indicator that makes it easy to see the sensor’s real-time performance, even from far away. The SLU4 features a bright OLED graphic display, which includes an alphanumeric display, a 10-bar contrast indicator, set point and trigger point, and details relevant to each detection mode.
Compact and Easy to Install
Each sensor is designed to be small enough to fit into compact spaces. The miniature SLE3 has a width of only 10 mm, and the SLU4 has a width of 21.6 mm. They each have available models with a built-in 2-m cable and models with a quick-disconnect cable port (4-pin M8 for the narrower SLE3, and 4-pin M8 or 5-pin M12 for the SLU4). SLE3 sensors can be set up with a one-press (Set)(+) button, and SLU4 sensors can be quickly configured using the OLED-display menus and three simple buttons.
