Passenger Address

Public Address systems are integral to FAA Part 23 compliance for transport aircraft, providing not just pleasant boarding music or that familiar chord chime when calling an attendant, but also providing means to instruct passengers of key safety briefing content, and allowing both the cabin and flight crew to direct passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency.

AvtechTyee public address systems were first introduced on the deHavilland Dash8 and CASA platforms for transport aircraft, followed by the innovation of a combined public address and cabin interphone system (PACIS). This PACIS reduced the number of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) used in the space constrained electronics bay, while meeting FAR requirements for independence and isolation. The PACIS design was introduced on the Bombardier CRJ aircraft, along with deployment on the Embraer E-Jets. Future PACIS usage will appear on the Mitsubishi MRJ and Embraer E2 platforms. There are five part families used for Passenger Address:

Cabin Interphones

Cabin interphones provide means for the cabin crew to interact with:

• Each other• The flight crew• Notification call lighting• The passengers

The most visible and commonly used part of the cabin interphone system is the handset, which is coupled with a cradle that must retain the handset throughout a variety of crash safety tests. Cabin interphone handsets and cradles are either “smart” or “simple” in that they can either perform audio switching, signaling, and call resets on their own (“smart”) or rely on a cabin interphone controller (“simple”). To reduce the complexity associated with the highly utilized and critical cabin handset, AvtechTyee has primarily focused on “simple” handsets that are closely aligned with our PACIC systems. This allows the handsets to be reliable, and lower cost, than more complex variants. There are three part families used for Cabin Interphones:

Speakers

Passenger Address systems require loud speakers to transfer the audio announcements and boarding music to the cabin. AvtechTyee has a wide range of speakers available for flight applications, both in the flight deck and passenger cabin. Speakers are typically round or oval shaped, and range in depth from 1.5” to our slimest model at just 1” in dept. Slimmer speakers allow for greater space allocated to other Passenger Service Unit PSU elements, or improved cabin baggage storage space.

Attendant Panels

Attendant Panels allow Cabin Interphone and Passenger Address systems to notify the cabin crew of various events, and allow the crew to respond. While most AvtechTyee Cabin Interphone Handsets and Cradles include integral annunciators and pushbuttons, some applications may require a panel located somewhere else.
