THK's creative ideas and unique technology made the company worldwide pioneers in the development of the Linear Motion (LM) Guide mechanism. Today, our LM Guide devices are an indispensable component of mechanical and electronic systems in a wide variety of industries.
THK has also developed many other unique mechanical components, including the Ball Spline, Ball Screws and Link Balls, which are manufactured by us for supply to customers worldwide.
Establishment
In 1971, THK was established in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, under its first name, Toho Seiko Co., Ltd.
Development of "LM Guide"
In 1972, THK became the first company in the world to develop a method of linear motion with rolling contact, and began manufacturing and selling the commercialized result: Linear Motion (LM) Guides.

In 1977, THK's Kofu Plant -- the first full-scale LM Guide production plant -- was established. This was THK's first step in expanding production facilities.
