 History

• 1980 Founding of Opto Special Needs GmbH
• 1992 Integration of CCD image sensors from video cameras in machines
• 1994 Pioneer in the use of stereomicroscopes in fluorescence microscopy
• 1996 Company takeover by Markus Riedi
• Use of the first microscopes with video editing
• 1999 Launch of the first laser-based OEM module
• 2000 First LCD display in an image processing module (imaging module)
• First web shop for microscopes and industrial cameras
• 2006 Opto expands in the UK
• 2008 Merger of Opto special needs and the Riedi Feinwerktechnik family business
• Foundation of an office in France
• 2012 01/01/2012 - Opto Sonderbedarf GmbH becomes Opto GmbH
• Definition of the growth strategy 'Vision 2020'
• Introduction of a new technology for 'laser fault injection' for eg smart card testing
• 2013 Introduction of a new corporate identity and first successes in the Asian business.
• 2014 Opto obtained ISO certification ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004. 
• 2015 Opto finds partners for customized fluorescence microscopes for early cancer detection.
• 2017 Opto presents its new "Imaging Module" and breaks new ground.
• Re-certification according to DIN ISO 9001:2015
• 2018 Opto introduces the solino® technology for reliable, reproducible surface analysis.
• Launch of the OTS Imaging Module
