Introduction:

Sivers Semiconductors AB plans to invest $30 million to expand its Indium Phosphide (InP) manufacturing facility in Glasgow, Scotland. The investment will increase production capacity to support growing demand for optical components driven by AI data centres and optical networking.

Features:

The expanded facility is expected to support annual production of more than 100 million continuous-wave distributed feedback (CW DFB) lasers. The expansion will also introduce new process capabilities, increased automation and greater manufacturing flexibility.

The investment supports Sivers’ transition from a Fab-Lite manufacturing model to a Hybrid Manufacturing strategy, combining expanded in-house production with strategic foundry, packaging and manufacturing partners.

The company expects the investment to increase laser production capacity and provide greater supply security as customers scale their AI infrastructure and optical networking programmes.

The Glasgow expansion will complement Sivers’ wider manufacturing ecosystem, which includes foundry, packaging and manufacturing partners in Asia.

The expansion programme is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with operations expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2027.
