LASER CUTTING

LASER CUTTING

LASER CUTTING

Laser cutting uses a high-powered, computer-controlled laser to make precision cuts. There are numerous laser cutting methods, including blow and burn, cold cutting, and scribing, but all techniques strictly follow instructions programmed from a computer-aided design (CAD) file to ensure extreme accuracy and repeatability between cuts.

At Precision Waterjet & Laser, we use laser cutting with a variety of materials, such as:

  • Acrylic
  • Metal
  • Paper
  • Plastic
  • Textile

Our expert laser technicians use state-of-the-art laser cutting machinery to produce exceptional results that strictly follow customer drawings and specifications. We also offer a full suite of fabrication and finishing services, helping our customers to minimize the number of vendors needed on any given project.

Types of Laser Cutting

The most appropriate laser cutting method depends on the material and the specific project details. Some of the most common methods for laser cutting include:

  • CO2 or fiber laser cutting
  • Melt and blow
  • Reactive cutting
  • Silicon wafer stealth dicing
  • Thermal stress cracking
  • Vaporization cutting

At Precision Waterjet & Laser, we specialize in CO2 laser cutting. This method uses a lens to focus CO2 laser beams on the surface of the workpiece.

Our Laser Cutting Capabilities

Our facility has three 4400 kW CO2 laser cutters that incorporate specialized features such as flying optics, facilitating cuts along 2, 3, and 5 axes. We can cut workpieces in sizes up 80 inches by 160 inches, with diameters as large as 80 inches. We can accommodate extremely thin sheets and thicker sheets up to 1 inch within tolerances of 0.002 inches.

While kerf varies based on the specific project details and tolerance requirements, we have carefully calibrated all of our laser cutting equipment to achieve the best possible tolerances even on extremely precise projects. We can configure our lasers to virtually any frequency, power, and speed, enabling us to cut highly complex components, detailed artwork, and much more.

We regularly provide laser cutting for industries such as:

  • Aerospace
  • Artwork
  • Automotive
  • Dental
  • Electronics
  • Jewelry
  • Medical
  • Renewable energy (solar)

Our Material Capabilities

Our laser cutting machinery is compatible with a variety of non-ferrous and ferrous metal materials, such as:

  • Aluminum
  • Inconel®
  • Monel
  • Multiple types of steel/stainless steel

Laser cutting is also ideal for cutting many non-metal materials, including:

  • Acrylic
  • Ceramic
  • Paper
  • Paperboard
  • Plastic
  • Rubber
  • Wood
