Rotary gas heaters are used to heat exhaust gases reaching the chimney, primarily in flue gas desulphurisation installations and in low-pressure systems of selective catalytic reduction. Balcke-Dürr offers rotary Ljungström rotary flue gas heaters as well as Rothemühle stationary rotary heaters.

In the exchanger, the sulfurized combustion gases and the clean flue gas flow in opposite directions through the heating elements. These elements continuously absorb and release heat through convection.
