Warehouse Management System

Warehouse Management System

A Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a specialized business application that controls the flow of materials in, within and out of the company’s one or many Distribution Centres (DC). WMS is intelligent and manages the flow of inventory and labour activities. A WMS can verify receipts, put away goods and materials, replenish inventory to the next location, complete cycle counts, consolidate orders on a dock, and create pack slips and carrier compliant labels.

A Warehouse Control System (WCS) is a real-time, integrated control solution that manages the flow of boxes, cartons and pallets as it travels on automated equipment like conveyors, sorters, ASRS, etc. A WCS is able to exchange real-time communication, processing of the command, equipment signals and optimization of the material. WCS is adding more and more available functionalities in the WMS space. Typically, WCS solutions are well-suited for highly-automated facilities, but WCS systems can also manage the complex functionalities and can control all warehousing processes.
