GE’s Power Services business announced it has completed the inspection and repairs of the 180-megawatt (MW) Ensenyurt Power Plant on the outskirts of Istanbul, the country’s most populous city. The 16-year-old station’s owner, Turkish utility Doga Enerji, selected GE to enhance the site’s long-term reliability in meeting the area’s growing electricity and district heating needs.
“Istanbul is one of the most populous cities in the world with several large residential communities having been built in the municipal district of Ensenyurt in recent years, making it necessary to increase the reliability of our power plant and the supply of spare parts and support services,” said Arif Kayi, maintenance supervisor of Doga Enerji’s Ensenyurt Power Plant. “We selected GE to provide spare parts, inspection and repair services for one of the three 6B gas turbines. Of the five bids we received, GE was the only company to meet all of our specific services requirements to ensure the long-term availability of the station and reduce the possibility of costly, unplanned outages.”
The project also marked the first time GE completed repairs on non GE-made parts as well as GE-supplied components. During the project proposal process, GE implemented its new, more flexible and responsive “SMART Repairs” approach to help Doga Enerji identify its repair needs and priorities.

The Ensenyurt Power Plant is Turkey’s only GE 6B gas turbine-powered plant with a government power purchase agreement, making it crucial that we help Doga Enerji ensure the continuous operation of their facility.”
Located 30 kilometers west of Istanbul in the municipal district of Ensenyurt, the power plant is a dual-fuel combined-cycle power plant that uses natural gas as its primary fuel and diesel as a secondary fuel to generate critical electricity for the local grid and steam for district heating. The station features three of GE’s 40-MW Frame 6B gas turbine-generator sets and a GE 74D-SP-FG-CAX steam turbine. The gas turbines were manufactured by Thomassen International BV under license from GE. The units also feature GE’s DLN1 (Dry Low NOx) combustion technology to control NOx emissions, with water injection used for NOx control when firing on diesel fuel.
GE used the expertise and experience of its global Repair Technology Center of Excellence (RTCoE) to ensure that Doga’s requests for unique coatings and processes were fulfilled. GE sent multiple field engineering teams to the site to inspect and assess the hardware. Using Blue Light as well as customized proprietary inspection programs, GE verified component dimensional integrity. Along with these inspections, the RTCoE also validated material properties to determine optimal repair scope for the non-GE components.
