ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, will present some of its latest power distribution technologies at the CIRED conference in Lyon, France. Running from June 15-18, 2015, the biennial global event is a key platform to showcase technologies, discuss market trends and future developments in the power distribution sector.
In addition to presenting a number of technical papers at the event, ABB will exhibit products and solutions aimed at enhancing the eco-efficiency, reliability, safety and intelligence of power distribution networks, in line with some of ABB’s key Next Level strategic focus areas.
On display will be some of the latest developments in medium-voltage gas-insulated switchgear for primary and secondary distribution. A highlight will be ABB’s latest eco-efficient switchgear which uses a sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) alternative gas mixture insulation medium, capable of reducing global warming potential (GWP) by almost 100 percent, without compromising on equipment compactness, performance or reliability. The fluoroketone-based SF6 alternative gas mixture is a chemical compound developed in collaboration with 3M.
The latest Relion® protection relays and control systems deployed in the network to integrate renewable energy more efficiently and to control power flow and voltage regulation will also be presented. These will be shown along with the Relay Retrofit Program, a complete solution which focuses on the smooth replacement of existing protection relays with the latest ones.
At the CIRED event ABB will launch its latest line voltage regulators (LVR) developed to minimize energy losses and meet the highest environmental requirements. It can easily and quickly be installed thanks to being mounted in a standard cable distribution cabinet and is available for low- and medium-voltage networks. Also on display will be ABB’s eco-efficient distribution transformers.
ABB’s expertise in grid automation and enabling digital distribution networks will also be featured. There will be a presentation on the UniGear Digital switchgear solution offering IEC 61850-9-2 process bus technology. In addition, ABB will showcase its latest wireless communications solutions including the new Tropos mesh router that enables reliable, cost-effective private wireless communication networks for smart metering and distribution automation.
A recently launched fully automated recloser for overhead line networks with advanced features for smart grid applications will be on display. ABB will also feature a distribution management system that provides geographically based network views for power networks, an outage lifecycle management solution with protection and control relays and remote terminal units (RTUs) to ensure secure communication to the network and minimize downtime in case of a power outage.
