Introduction:

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, along with Brightline West and Siemens Mobility, announced today an investment of $60 million to make Horseheads, New York, the site of North America’s first high-speed rail production facility.

Features:

This new facility in Horseheads signifies the dawn of a new industry in the USA, introducing high-speed rail production and some of the world’s most advanced trains to the continent for the first time. Designed with state-of-the-art digital twin technology and utilising world-class digital rail solutions, the New York-built American Pioneer 220s feature groundbreaking advancements. These include a revolutionary gearless propulsion system that reduces energy consumption by 30% and enables the trains to navigate steep gradients with ease.

The new manufacturing facility will span nearly 300,000 square feet and is anticipated to create approximately 300 jobs. Siemens brings over two billion miles of experience from its more than 1,000 high-speed trains. Capable of exceeding speeds of 300 km/h, these trains will incorporate the latest innovations designed for the modern traveller, establishing a new standard in transportation.

Siemens Mobility will manufacture train sets for the Brightline West high-speed rail project, which will connect Las Vegas and Southern California in under two hours. The American Pioneer 220 will be the first true high-speed trainsets built in America, with production in Horseheads set to begin in 2026.
