Introduction:

ANDRITZ has secured a contract from ENGIE Hidroelétricas do Douro, acting on behalf of Movhera Hidroelétricas do Norte SA, to modernize three generating units at the Picote I hydropower plant in Portugal. The project aims to improve the plant’s operational performance and extend its service life.

Features:

The Picote I hydropower plant, located on the Douro River and operated by Movhera, forms part of Portugal’s key Douro hydropower cascade, supporting renewable electricity generation and national energy security.

The modernization project will improve the plant’s efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance, reinforcing its role in Portugal’s renewable energy transition.

ANDRITZ will supply three new 72 MW Francis turbine runners and new wicket gates, rehabilitate the three generator rotors, modernize the mechanical power system, and carry out the dismantling and installation works.

The rehabilitation and modernization project is expected to be completed by the end of 2030.
