Rockwell Automation and Infinitum Announce Agreement Making High-Efficiency Low-Voltage Drives and Motors Available for Energy-Intensive Industrial Applications

19 September 2023

Rockwell Automation , Inc. the world's leading industrial automation and digital transformation company, and Infinitum , the creator of the sustainable air core engine, today announced a exclusive agreement for the joint development and distribution of a new class of high-efficiency low-voltage integrated drives and motors. This solution will enable industrial customers around the world to save energy and cut costs significantly, helping them reduce their carbon footprint and become more sustainable.

As energy awareness grows in companies and solutions are sought to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, variable frequency drives (VFDs) with high-efficiency motors are gaining importance. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), electric motors consume around 40% of the electricity consumed globally, with the percentage reaching almost 70% for industries.

Under this agreement, Rockwell Automation's market-leading PowerFlex® drive technology will be combined with Infinitium's high-efficiency Aircore EC motor system. This powerful package will help companies reduce their carbon footprint with a motor system that is 50% smaller and lighter, uses 66% less copper and consumes 10% less energy than traditional motors with iron core.

“We have long recognized the benefits of Infinitum's integrated drive and motor system for its class-leading energy efficiency, sustainability and ease of operation,” said Barry Elliott, vice president and general manager of Power Control at Rockwell Automation . “We are excited about the powerful impact our new joint solution will have on improving sustainability, energy efficiency and productivity for our customers around the world.”

Rockwell Automation and Infinitum have collaborated since 2021, when Rockwell made an initial investment in Infinitum as part of the company's Series C financing.

“We are happy to extend our successful collaboration with Rockwell Automation. This agreement opens new market channels for our sustainable engines that can move the world with less energy, less materials and less waste,” said Ben Schuler, founder and CEO of Infinitum . "The collaboration with Rockwell Automation will allow us to have a direct and widespread impact on industries, reducing electricity consumption and increasing the sustainability of this energy-intensive sector."

VFDs and integrated motors will be available in late 2024 exclusively through Rockwell Automation and its partners.
