Synopsys Completes Acquisition of PikeTec GmbH

24 August 2023

Synopsys, Inc. has successfully finalized its acquisition of PikeTec GmbH, a prominent player in the field of solutions tailored for testing and verifying automotive software within control unit systems.

The ongoing rise of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) is propelling a swift expansion in the electronic components present in vehicles. These components manage various aspects of a vehicle's operations, functions, and features primarily through software. The intricate nature of SDV systems, encompassing software, sensors, computing, and mechatronics, is amplifying the demands of testing and verification efforts. This complex landscape has emerged as a significant challenge for automakers and suppliers striving to introduce SDVs to the market.

Jens Lüdemann, CEO at PikeTec, highlighted this industry shift: "As the automotive industry evolves towards software-defined vehicles, so does the need for more efficient and effective software testing methods." The collaboration with Synopsys underscores PikeTec's dedication to empowering automotive OEMs with comprehensive virtualization and testing solutions that streamline the delivery of top-notch software.

PikeTec's test automation tools facilitate intuitive and adaptable testing across all development phases and simulation environments, spanning from Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) to Vehicle-in-the-Loop (ViL). As software volume and complexity escalate, automotive software testing is progressing to earlier stages of product development, embracing models, software, and processors in virtual domains. The synergy between Synopsys' leading Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and virtual hardware solutions and PikeTec's test automation tools equips automotive companies with a robust solution to expedite the market entry of SDVs while enhancing safety and security.

Ravi Subramanian, General Manager of the Systems Design Group at Synopsys, underscored the significance of this union: "Combining the expertise of Synopsys and PikeTec will enable us to bring to market innovative virtualization and testing solutions that directly address our customers' challenges as they shift left in software development and verification."

While the financial details of the deal are not disclosed, the terms are deemed non-material to Synopsys' financial standing.
