GE Vernova Announces New AI-Powered Carbon Emissions Management Software

13 September 2023

Just days before the commencement of Climate Week NYC, GE Vernova's Digital division has unveiled a sneak peek of CERius™, a cutting-edge carbon emissions management software. This software is meticulously crafted to aid energy companies in advancing toward their net-zero objectives through the precision of data and effective abatement planning. Initially, CERius is accessible in a limited pilot release exclusively for existing GE Vernova customers, while the broader availability is anticipated in early 2024.

CERius has been meticulously designed to empower organizations with enhanced capabilities to accurately gauge, oversee, and operationalize vital insights required for tracking carbon-neutral emission targets. It leverages automation to ensure more precise collection of greenhouse gas (GHG) data and offers actionable recommendations to facilitate the execution of carbon reduction initiatives. This includes scenario analysis, collaborative tools, and standardized reporting in alignment with GHG protocols. By implementing these cross-functional standards and processes facilitated by CERius, companies can effectively navigate the ever-evolving landscape of regulatory compliance.

Amy Cravens, Research Manager for ESG Management and Reporting Technologies at IDC, commented on the increasing demand for accurate emissions data: "There are increased expectations from regulatory bodies, investors, and companies that have made public net-zero commitments which require more rigor to disclose accurate emissions data. Companies look to carbon emissions management technologies like GE Vernova’s CERius software to help improve scope 1, 2, and 3 data accuracy and reporting, in addition to measuring abatement planning strategies."

Scott Reese, CEO of GE Vernova’s Digital business, emphasized their unique position in helping customers decarbonize, given their significant role in electricity generation: "We believe that we are in a unique position to help customers decarbonize their operations, as GE Vernova’s technology helps generate roughly 30% of the world’s electricity."

CERius offers a wide range of benefits for energy companies, including:

Decarbonization Planning & Activation: Enabling simulation and evaluation of various abatement scenarios to optimize carbon management strategies. This helps identify the most effective pathways for achieving net-zero targets.

Multi-Team Collaboration: Providing transparent visibility across sustainability executives, managers, and operators to simplify audit preparations, break down departmental silos, and enhance trust and credibility.

Emissions Tracking: Automating data collection and improving accuracy for monitoring carbon emissions across operations, including scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data. It offers real-time data visualization and reporting capabilities, improving the accuracy of scope 1 emissions reporting by up to 33%.

Compliance Reporting: Simplifying compliance management by automating data collection and analysis, ensuring adherence to evolving regulatory requirements.

CERius stands out by transitioning from estimations to precise results using Digital Twin technology. This enables more confident decision-making and the ability to perform detailed simulations. For instance, it allows companies to calculate the impact of incorporating hydrogen into gas operations on emissions reduction with a high level of precision.

Linda Rae, General Manager, Power Generation and Oil & Gas for GE Vernova’s Digital business, expressed their excitement about extending their expertise into emissions management as leaders in Asset Performance Management.
