18 August 2023

Emerson, a prominent name in technology and innovation, has recently announced a significant development – the acquisition of Afag Holding AG ("Afag"), a pioneering leader in electric linear motion and automation solutions for handling and feeding.

With its headquarters located in Zell, Switzerland, Afag introduces cutting-edge technology and innovation into the Emerson portfolio. This strategic move is set to enrich Emerson's capabilities in factory automation, which stands as one of the company's core priorities. The acquisition will foster the amalgamation of Afag's electric linear motion solutions with Emerson's existing pneumatic motion technology, thus forging a comprehensive and dominant motion portfolio. Afag's client base is spread across burgeoning industries like battery manufacturing, automotive, packaging, medical, life sciences, and electronics. Notably, the electric linear motion sector broadens Emerson's market presence by more than $9 billion, projecting a mid-single digit annual growth that lends robust support to Emerson's sustained organic expansion.

Ram Krishnan, Chief Operating Officer of Emerson, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "Afag's introduction of innovative technology will accelerate Emerson's growth within our $900 million factory automation segment. As industries progressively embrace electrification in their manufacturing processes, Afag's technology aligns perfectly to provide enhanced energy efficiency and performance gains. By combining Afag's motion expertise with our existing pneumatic leadership, we're set to create a distinct and unparalleled solution for our clientele. Afag and its talented workforce will play a pivotal role in amplifying Emerson's prowess and innovation in the realm of factory automation."

Adrian Fuchser, Chief Executive Officer of Afag, echoed the excitement, saying, "Joining forces with Emerson allows us to build upon their established leadership in factory automation while expanding our global footprint. Afag is known for delivering vital, tailor-made systems, and we're energized by the opportunity to present a more comprehensive and holistic motion solution to our customers. Our shared vision of providing holistic solutions in critical industries aligns perfectly, and we're eagerly anticipating a journey of continued success as part of Emerson."

The anticipated completion of this transaction is projected by the conclusion of Emerson's fiscal year 2023, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Although specific financial terms remain undisclosed, this venture will position Afag under Emerson's Discrete Automation segment, setting the stage for an exciting new phase of growth and innovation.
