Cognex Joins the OSARO Partners Alliance to Enhance Pick-and-Place Robots in Fulfillment Warehouses

The recent implementation at Zenni in Novato, California, provided a platform to showcase the contribution of Cognex’s DataMan barcode readers within OSARO's system. This system includes a FANUC M-10 Series robot arm driven by OSARO's SightWorks™ vision and control system for robots, a Pregis Sharp™ automated bagging machine, Cognex readers, and Framos cameras for robot guidance. The physical infrastructure was constructed by NPSG Global in collaboration with OSARO’s technical team.

This system has demonstrated a compelling return on investment (ROI) for one of the leading global eyeglass retailers by overcoming a persistent challenge. The distinctive translucent blue eyeglass cases of Zenni posed a difficulty for scanners from multiple original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), as they were unable to read barcodes through the plastic cases. OSARO thoroughly evaluated several suppliers before selecting Cognex DataMan readers, which achieved an impressive 99% accuracy in read rates, concurrently enhancing throughput by 80%.

Effective lighting is a critical aspect of barcode reading solutions and plays a pivotal role in boosting read rates. Cognex's high-intensity LED lighting, specifically a high-powered integrated torch (HPIT), played a crucial role in enabling the reading of barcodes through Zenni's eyewear cases. At present, each OSARO robotic system can pick, scan, bag, and label up to 410 eyeglasses per hour.
