ABB Unveils Groundbreaking Ultra Accuracy Feature for GoFa? Cobots
ABB Robotics has launched Ultra Accuracy, an innovative feature for its GoFa™ cobot family, offering unprecedented precision in collaborative robots. This cutting-edge technology delivers over 10 times the path accuracy of other cobots on the market, setting a new industry standard.
As industries look to automation to enhance product quality and achieve tighter tolerances - continuously decreasing the maximum allowable deviation from the standard in quality control - there is a growing need for robots that can perform tasks with exceptional precision. By combining ultra-accurate path performance with GoFa's inherent simplicity, safety, and flexibility, ABB’s new Ultra Accuracy feature opens a wide range of possibilities for the use of cobots in businesses including electronics, automotive, aerospace, and metal fabrication. Andrea Cassoni, Global Head of Collaborative Robots for ABB Robotics
Ultra Accuracy meets the demands of applications where exact positioning is critical to maintaining product quality and operational efficiency. These include tasks like gluing and sealing in electronics, laser welding in automotive manufacturing, layering composites in aerospace, and precision laser cutting in metal fabrication. It can also be applied to additive manufacturing and 3D printing, as well as precision metrology and quality inspection tasks.
In addition to enhanced precision, Ultra Accuracy offers speed and full motion range. Unlike traditional 2D gantry systems commonly used in electronics manufacturing, GoFa cobots provide full 6D motion across their workspace straight out of the box, without the need for extensive calibration. This flexibility enables them to handle a broader range of tasks, offering a significant advantage over fixed gantry systems.
The compact, portable design of GoFa makes it easy to integrate into existing production lines without costly customization. With the Ultra Accuracy feature, the cobot can be quickly deployed with minimal installation time, thanks to pre-factory calibration.
ABB's powerful combination of Ultra Accuracy and its RobotStudio® software allows for offline programming, delivering a 99% match between simulation and real-world execution. This minimizes the need for touch-ups and ensures precise, efficient implementation. Ultra Accuracy is available for new GoFa cobots and can be retrofitted to existing models.
