Yokogawa develops the virtualization platform of the N-IO standard control system and field cabinet

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announced that it has developed a standard N-IO field office and a control system virtualization platform. The wrap is a weatherproof, remote IO enclosure that stores IO devices used by the CENTUM (R) VP integrated production control system and the ProSafe (R)- RS and the virtualization platform allows the control of multiple virtual devices on a single server. By reducing the amount of time and effort to design a new system, these solutions help accelerate project execution and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). The standard N-IO field office is scheduled to be released in February 2018, and the virtualization platform will be launched in May 2018.

Development history
As global competition intensifies and the market environment changes, manufacturers want to set up production facilities even faster. Yokogawa is responding to this need using the concept of agile execution of projects, which improves agility. Agile project execution is an innovative approach to using standardized technology and flexible project execution processes that keep automation out of the critical path during project execution. The result is a lower cost of installation and maintenance, and lower TCO, while reducing project execution and delivery risks.
For improved agility in project execution, Yokogawa has developed the IO IO (IO) field device for CENTUM VP R6.01 (released November 2014) and ProSafe-RS R4.01.00 (released October 2015 ). Equipped with a module that can handle various types of IO signal, the N-IO device can process analog and digital signals from EI, which represent the bulk of the IO signal traffic. With this device, the signal type for each IO point can be configured only through software configurations. This eliminates the need to replace the IO modules and wiring by changing the types of sensors and wiring layouts during the design and changing the sensor types during a plant renovation.

To realize the concept of agile project execution, Yokogawa has developed the N-IO standard field office and a control system virtualization platform. The wrapper is a remote IO enclosure that stores the N-IO device, a key component of the CENTUM VP and ProSafe-RS systems, and the virtualization platform allows the operation of multiple virtual machines on a single server. Together with the integrated N-IO engineering environment and the Automation Design Suite (AD suite) * , Yokogawa uses virtualization technology to reduce plant construction costs and accelerate project implementation. 1. N-IO Standard Field Wrap

Many conventional cabinets for storing IO devices are designed to be installed in air-conditioned instrumentation rooms. For external use, it is necessary to create special dustproof and water resistant enclosures. The standard N-IO field enclosure developed for CENTUM VP and ProSafe-RS systems is a waterproof, dust-proof, remote IO enclosure that can be installed outdoors. By allowing configuration of signal types through software configurations, this enclosure eliminates the need for further modifications to the design. As such, it can be delivered directly to customers without additional modification for faster project implementation.

2. Virtualization Platform Control System
Several PCs for operation, monitoring and other purposes are typically used in configuring a control system and the cost of acquiring and maintaining these computers is substantial. The virtualization platform of Yokogawa's control system allows a single server to run the work of multiple virtual PCs, thereby reducing the number of PCs needed to configure a control system. With this platform, the necessary hardware and software are provided to create a virtual environment. Through this virtualized server environment, you can upgrade separately and make modifications to the hardware and software as needed.

In preparation for system installation, Yokogawa performs the engineering and factory acceptance testing (FAT) of the software on a machine different from the one that will actually be used. Yokogawa delivers the hardware directly to the client and then installs the complete software. This speeds up implementation and avoids project delays.
