Setting the Directions of Sustainable Downstream Future at PRC Europe 2022

Usage of green and blue hydrogen, challenges for existing refineries, and environmental impact of biofuels production have been discussed at the Petrochemical and Refining Congress: Europe 2022 (PRC Europe 2022). The Congress has been successfully held in Helsinki, Finland on May, 30-31, 2022. PRC Europe 2022 welcomed the top managers and technical directors from Wood, OMV, McDermott, Eni, CEPSA, Orlen, Worley, FLUOR, BP, Shell and many others.
The business program of PRC Europe highlighted cutting-edge green topics about hydrogen progressive development, renewable energy infrastructure, and fossil fuels future. O&G major companies and EPCs held discussions regarding the outlook of existing technologies for refining and petrochemical operations. Representatives from refineries and licensors showcased their solutions on how to move to the production of renewable fuels. So, the agenda of the Congress comprised the most perspective topics of the downstream sector to discuss and share insights.
The first day started with the Executive Opening Panel dedicated to energy transition and post-covid industry response. After the welcoming speech from Regina Chislova, the Project Director, delegates from SST Group, Lummus Technology, and PETRONAS shared their respective viewpoints on corporate responsibility, rehabilitation after the pandemic and resilient business models. Then the agenda was divided into streams that comprised sessions about ways to produce petrochemicals with a lower environmental impact, and the Senior Vice President’s talk regarding opportunities of renewable energy. The limited number of delegates also took part in a roundtable dedicated to CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) solutions for the downstream.
The second day of PRC Europe started with another Senior Vice President’s talk about the impact of a carbon tax on the industry and the session, where representatives from Borealis, Equinor, Wood, Kent and Lummus Technology emphasized what is still under the patronage of fossil fuels. Moreover, the agenda of that day embraced the sessions about hydrogen, case-studies from industry leaders on plant reliability and process improvement, and the roundtable regarding the role of biofuels in a low carbon future. At the closing panel the delegates of oil and chemical companies together set the direction of refineries in a long-term period.
The dates of the next edition of the Petrochemical and Refining Congress are already known. The Congress is going to take place in Vienna, Austria on May, 22-23, 2023.
