AUTOMA 2021: Eni presents its supercomputer HPC5 and Green Data Center on Day 3

7 April 2021

The 2021 Edition of the Oil and Gas Automation and Digitalization Congress adds another day to its schedule for Eni’s presentation on April 21.

Launched on February 6, 2021, HPC5 became the most powerful supercomputer for industrial use, an essential tool to shape the energy of the future. With 51.7 petaFlops of computing power, HPC5 is a strategic asset for Eni’s ongoing technological and digitalisation progress, as it allows researchers to use sophisticated algorithms for subs-surface data processing, resulting in higher underground rocks studies accuracy.

In the morning, Eni will present its 2-hour interactive panel dedicated to HPC5 to explain how it accelerates the company's transformation towards a sustainable and low-carbon energy system and how the research activity carried out in the last year within the EXSCALATE4CoV project is helping in the battle against Covid-19. The speakers are among Eni’s most experienced professionals: Alberto Delbianco, Head of Downstream R&D, and Silvia Pavoni, Crude Oil Valorization & Fuels Knowledge Owner.

The follow-up presentation will introduce the Green Data Centre, where all of Eni’s supercomputing systems, data and central processing systems are located and maintained. A world-class example of environmentally aware design, the Green Data Centre manages 98% of its cooling needs with the use of external air, while most of its electricity necessities are supplied by a nearby power plant and an on-site solar power station. Eni is going to give an online tour through one of the world’s most energy efficient data centers.

The AUTOMA Congress takes place online, on the BGS Online platform on April, 19-21, 2021.
