Siemens has announced the launch of a comprehensive security platform for Operational Technology (OT) network management, revealed today at the SPS Smart Production Solutions 2025 trade fair in Munich. This new solution marks a significant step forward in safeguarding industrial automation environments across Europe, addressing escalating cyber risks faced by manufacturers and critical infrastructure operators in an increasingly digitized landscape.

The Siemens platform centralizes the management of communication connections within complex OT networks, integrating virtualized network structures to protect shop floor devices from targeted attacks and unauthorized access. By bringing together firewall functionality, endpoint protection, intrusion detection, and automated threat response under one umbrella, the solution offers manufacturers a robust, unified approach to managing cybersecurity in their production environments.

Siemens highlights that industrial facilities have traditionally relied on disparate tools to secure industrial networks, often dealing with siloed data and inconsistent threat monitoring. With the rise of Industry 4.0, these gaps leave smart factories and automated processes vulnerable to sophisticated attacks targeting operational continuity, intellectual property, and safety. The new security platform directly addresses these risks, enabling plant operators to visualize network health, enforce segmentation policies, and perform coordinated incident response from a single interface.

Developed in close collaboration with leading European system integrators and security specialists, the platform leverages the benefits of virtualized OT architectures. Notably, the platform integrates with Siemens’ own portfolio of PLCs, drives, and HMI solutions, allowing seamless inclusion of security measures into both new installations and existing plant assets.

Among the functional highlights of the launch are automated onboarding of new OT assets, secure remote maintenance capabilities, and advanced user authentication controls. Siemens also touts real-time asset inventory, continuous vulnerability scanning, and reporting features that meet stringent European regulatory requirements, including the recent updates to the NIS2 directive for critical infrastructure protection.

During live demonstrations at SPS Smart Production Solutions, Siemens showcased how its platform protects shop floor communication flows between industrial robots, motion controllers, and smart sensors, with network traffic visualizations mapping authorized and unauthorized attempts in real time. Manufacturing customers from automotive, electronics, and food machinery sectors attended closed sessions to learn about tailored security strategies and integration case studies.
