Scanfil and MB Elettronica join forces to create a global leader in EMS services
15 July 2025
Finnish company Scanfil, the largest publicly traded electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company in Europe by turnover, and Italian company MB Elettronica (“MB”), headquartered in Cortona, Arezzo, have agreed to join forces.
The merger will create a major European player in the EMS sector with a global presence of 16 plants across four continents. MB operates four factories (or plants?) in Italy and employs approximately 500 people. The transaction will increase Scanfil's workforce to over 4,500, while current MB employees will continue to perform their roles within the Scanfil group.
MB and Scanfil's customer base and product offerings complement each other, enabling the two companies to create value for their customers through cross-selling. On the customer side, MB brings new and important industrial customers to the new Group. Specifically, it boasts significant customer relationships and expertise in various sectors—aerospace and defense, medical technology, and transportation. Together, Scanfil and MB will be able to serve their customers even better, offering manufacturing services in ten countries.
"I would like to welcome all new employees and customers to the growing Scanfil family. By joining forces, we are creating a European leader in the EMS sector with a strong presence in Italy and in the aerospace and defense sectors. For MB employees, a large company will create new opportunities for professional and career growth, while for MB customers, a larger company will be able to offer a better range of services thanks to global production and delivery capabilities," commented Christophe Sut, CEO of Scanfil.
“Both Scanfil and MB Elettronica were born as family businesses. Both Scanfil and MB Elettronica were born as family businesses: There is a similar dynamic in their operating cultures, and entrepreneurship is a highly valued corporate value. Our employees stand out for their remarkable skills and strong motivation, characteristics that are and will be fundamental to success in the EMS sector,” adds Roberto Banelli, CEO of MB. “Thanks to Scanfil's financial strength and global presence, MB will embark on a new path of growth. The union of the two companies will create value for customers and employees. I look forward to the opportunity for MB to join the Scanfil family and to a future that will see MB become increasingly stronger as part of this partnership.”
"I started the business in 1961 and am proud to have, together with my sons, brought the company to this level and employed over 500 people. And today we are proud to have been able to reach an agreement with Scanfil to further grow it. I wish everyone the best of luck in their endeavors," summarizes Francesco Banelli, founder of MB Elettronica.
The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025.
