Foot Valves

A foot valve is a type of check valve found at the end of a pump suction line. One-way flow is permitted by foot valves. When water flows through it, the spring in it causes the valve to open. When it's turned off, however, the water stops flowing back. Furthermore, they have a strainer attached to prevent debris from preventing the valve from closing.

Foot Valve Applications

Foot valves are commonly used in the following applications:

  • Suction lines of the pipeline
  • Ponds, pools, and wells that use pumps to transfer water.
  • In rivers and lakes, sump pumps and intake pumps.
  • Commercial truck pneumatic brake lines
  • Car wash systems.
  • Irrigation systems.
  • Rural fire protection systems.
  • HVAC systems.
Advantages of Foot Valves
  • Protect water pumps from damage caused by dry runs, as well as reduce energy waste.
  • They are less expensive to use than other valves used to prime a pump.
  • They are inexpensive and lightweight.
  • Foot valves of high quality can help water pumps last longer.
Disadvantages of Foot Valves
  • Foot valves should only be used on pump lines.
