AEM and Paradox Engineering announce partnership to develop IoT solutions

10 January 2017

Azienda Elettrica di Massagno (AEM) and Paradox Engineering announced that they will collaborate on the development of innovative technologies for managing power distribution networks and design new utility services. The agreement has been signed for three years and includes the field trial of new Smart Grid and Smart City solutions based on the Internet of Things, with the common goal of improving efficiency of existing infrastructures, promote sustainable growth and boost local economy.

AEM and Paradox Engineering are already working with SUPSI university to implement a Smart Grid project covering the entire AEM basin in Ticino Canton, Switzerland. Leveraging Paradox Engineering’s network platforms, smart meters will be installed to collect data from field devices and send commands to enable remote control. The solution will streamline load management over the network, save costs and therefore reduce energy prices for end users, positioning AEM at the forefront of Swiss electricity market.

The implementation of a narrowband / broadband data transport network, entirely based on Paradox Engineering’s technologies, will also allow the smart extension of present services, as well as the design of new applications for parking management, traffic video surveillance, public Wi-Fi and many others, to be developed in close contact with local municipalities. Activities around this Smart Urban Network will begin in February 2017 to have it completed before Summer 2017.
